Who we are
VinCount runs vincount.com, a data service for used-car dealers. In this policy, "VinCount", "we" and "us" mean the operator of vincount.com. You can reach us at hello@vincount.com or by mail at 1174 Via Verde #150, San Dimas, CA 91773.
When you visit the site
Cloudflare runs the site and handles every request to it. Cloudflare's logs of those requests can include your IP address, the page you asked for, the time and the browser you use. We use the logs to keep the site up and to find errors.
The site sets no advertising or analytics cookies, and it runs no ad or tracking scripts.
Your browser keeps two settings in its own storage on your device: whether you picked the light or dark theme, and whether the sheet shows a car's photos when you hover over its row. These settings stay in your browser, and we never receive them. Bookmarks you make in the app last until you reload the page, and we do not store them.
The site's pages load their fonts from Google Fonts, so your browser asks Google's servers for them, and Google sees your IP address when it does. In the app, some Craigslist photos load straight from Craigslist's servers until VinCount has its own copy.
When you ask for early access
The form at /access asks for your name, dealership, email, phone number and market, and lets you add a note. It also records the page you came from and the time you sent the form. We store all of it in VinCount's database.
We use it to contact you about access to VinCount, by email or by calling or texting the number you gave. We also count which pages bring dealers to the form. To have your request deleted, write to hello@vincount.com.
When you sign in
You sign in to VinCount with your Google account. We ask Google for your email address only, and never for your name, contacts or anything else in the account. We store your email address, when it was added and when you last signed in.
Signing in sets a cookie holding a random token that keeps you signed in for 30 days. We store only a one-way hash of that token, so a copy of our database would not let anyone sign in as you. A second cookie lasts 10 minutes while you sign in, and it checks that Google's answer belongs to your browser. Signing out deletes your session.
When you pay
A payment processor bills subscriptions. It collects and keeps your card details. We never see or store your card number. We keep a record of your plan, your payments and when your paid month ends.
Sellers whose listings VinCount shows
VinCount shows dealers car listings that sellers posted publicly on Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace and OfferUp. For each listing we keep:
- the ad's text and photos, including copies of the photos
- the asking price, every change to it, and when the ad went up and came down
- the location the ad gives
- any contact details the seller published in the ad, such as a phone number
- what the listing site shows about the seller's account, such as whether it marks the seller as a dealer
- the VIN, if the seller posted one
- the license plate read off the ad's photos, with the part of the photo that shows it
Dealers use this to find cars for sale and to reach the sellers who advertised them. We compare phone numbers and wording across ads to mark cars that read like a dealer's. We read plates to recognize one car posted more than once, and may use a plate to look up the car's VIN and vehicle history. We do not use a plate or a VIN to look up who owns a car.
We keep a listing after the ad comes down, so a dealer can see how long cars stayed up and how their prices moved.
VinCount is not affiliated with Craigslist, Meta or OfferUp.
Removing a listing
If you posted a car and want it off VinCount, email hello@vincount.com with the link to your ad. We remove the listing from the service, with its photos and the plate read from them. We keep that ad from coming back, and we reply when it is done. You do not need an account, and you do not need to give a reason.
Who we share information with
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for advertising.
Dealers who use VinCount see the listing information described above. Apart from that, we share information only with service providers that run VinCount for us. Cloudflare hosts the site, the database and the photos. Google handles sign-in and serves the fonts. A payment processor bills subscriptions. Other providers help us gather listings and read them. We may also disclose information when the law requires it, such as under a court order.
If you live in California
You can ask us what personal information we hold about you, and you can ask us to delete it. Email hello@vincount.com or write to the address above. Before we act, we may ask you to confirm who you are, for example by replying from the email address we have on file. We may keep a record the law requires us to keep, such as a payment record. We will not treat you differently for asking.
Children
VinCount is for businesses and is not meant for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you think we have, write to us and we will delete it.
Security
The site sends every page over HTTPS, and our database stores session tokens only as hashes. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach exposes your information, we will tell you.
Changes to this policy
When we change this policy, we post the new version here and update the date at the top. If a change affects how we use information you gave us, we will email you before it applies.
